Who Are We?

AbilityDocs was formed by committed medical professionals aware of the hurdles Canadians face when applying for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC). If you don't have a family doctor to support your application, we offer virtual review and signing services.

Our mission is to make the DTC process more accessible, offering expert support tailored to your needs. Our skilled team carefully reviews your documents and signs off on your DTC application to meet CRA requirements. Whether it's your first application or a reapplication, AbilityDocs is here to help.

What Do We Do?

Support you through every step of the process

Submit Your Application and Documentation

Upload your Benefits2-prepared DTC application and medical documents to our free cloud storage, then share them with us. No documents? Sign a release form, and we'll gather them for you. This ensures a seamless process for you.

Thorough Review and Signing

Our team reviews your application, makes necessary adjustments, and presents it to an accredited medical practitioner for review and signing. This ensures your application meets all required standards and increases your chances of approval.

Receive Your Completed Application

You'll get an invoice from the medical practitioner. Upon payment, your signed DTC application is added to your cloud storage and emailed to you with instructions for CRA submission. This final step ensures everything is ready for you to submit

What Do We Need?

Upload the following documentation

  • Diagnosis Reports

Detailed reports from your healthcare provider.

  • Consultation Reports

    Notes from consultations with specialists.

  • History & Physical Reports

Comprehensive medical history and physical examination records.

  • Chart Notes

Relevant notes related to your diagnosis(es) and/or impairments.

  • Referrals & Specialist Reports

Referrals and resulting reports from specialists and other medical professionals.

  • Discharge Summaries

Summaries from any hospital visits or stays related to your DTC application.

  • WCB / VAC / LTD Documentation

Medical documentation and forms filled out by a doctor, stating diagnoses, impairments, and dates (approval statements alone are insufficient).

Why We Need Your Medical Documents?

We are honored to review and authenticate your Disability Tax Credit (DTC) application. Medical documentation must thoroughly support the impairments for all years specified in the DTC application, especially for past years. A diagnosis report alone is often insufficient for requesting coverage for previous years; additional documentation must validate how the impairments impacted you during those times. Medication prescriptions, labels, or lab results cannot sufficiently support the application on their own, as they only indicate diagnosis and/or treatment and do not fully demonstrate how the impairments affect your daily living activities and functioning.

The CRA audits almost 50% of applications, requesting records reviewed to determine DTC eligibility. By having these records ahead of time, we can respond to audits promptly.

Will There Be Doctor's Fees for Medical Records?

When we request medical records on your behalf, please be aware of the following:

  • Doctor's Fees: Any fees invoiced or charged by the doctors for providing your medical records will need to be paid directly by you to them. These fees are not covered by the additional amount we charge for requesting records.

  • Invoice Handling: If an invoice is sent to us from a request we made for your records, we will email you the invoice. You can then decide if you want to pay it and have the doctor send us the requested records.

What Happens When CRA Requests More Information?

When the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requests more information regarding your Disability Tax Credit (DTC) application, here's what you can expect:

  • Doctor's Response: The doctor who signed your DTC application will receive the request directly from CRA. This may take 2-3 weeks due to processing times and mail delivery. The doctor will respond within CRA's specified timeframe.

  • CRA Review Period: CRA typically takes up to 60 days to review the additional information and make a decision. This timeframe is standard and does not indicate the outcome.

  • Providing Additional Documentation: If you have further medical documentation that supports your application, please send it to us. We will add it to your file to provide CRA with as much relevant information as possible.

  • Tracking CRA Correspondence: Please send us a copy of the full letter that CRA sent you. This helps us track which tax office and agents are handling your case.

  • Communication: We will keep you informed via email once the response is sent off to CRA from our end.
